Toolzng was created out of frustration, spending hours manually formatting research documents when the content was already done. We built the tool we wished existed.
Toolzng started at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos. As a Science Laboratory Technology student, formatting research documents to APA 7th edition standard was a painful, repetitive process like Times New Roman 12pt, double spacing, justified alignment, italicised scientific names, hanging indents for references.
We asked: why isn't there a tool that does this automatically, understands Nigerian academic formatting standards, and actually verifies that your references exist? So we built one.
Today Toolzng formats documents in seconds, verifies DOIs against 140M+ papers in the Crossref database, and identifies scientific names using a curated species database. And this is just the beginning.
We build for Nigerian students first understanding the exact formatting standards, supervisors, and submission requirements you face.
Formatting should take seconds, not hours. Every tool we build is optimised for speed and simplicity.
Core tools stay free. We believe access to good academic tools shouldn't be a privilege.
We don't guess. DOIs are verified against real databases. Species names are checked against 9M+ known organisms.
Toolzng is built with a focus on performance and reliability. The backend is written in Go for speed, Python handles document generation, and the frontend is plain HTML/CSS/JS, no bloated frameworks.
Toolzng is growing into a full suite of academic tools for Nigerian students:
